I wasn’t a welder at all, but I raised my hand, and I learned to weld in two minutes.

On the factory site, the Baustelle, various nationalities worked to together.  Jewish slave laborers from all of Europe, laborers who were ordered to work via the Arbeitseinsatz, wounded soldiers who could no longer serve at the front, and Degussa employees stood together on the shop floor.
