On 15 July 1942 the first transport for Auschwitz Birkenau departed from Westerbork. The deportations were organized in Berlin: date, destination, and the number of people to be deported. The SS- commander of Westerbork was responsible for drawing up the transport lists. The Jewish camp administration was charged with the implementation. Auschwitz was usually the final destination.
