They opened the windows of the Synagogue so that people in the street could follow the service.
In 1941 the Chief Rabbinate of Amsterdam met in the Rapenburger Synagogue. This synagogue was founded by patriotic liberal Jews, who had joined forces and together strove for equal rights during the Batavian-French era (1795-1913). The synagogue in Rapenburgerstraat was still used in the war. Then it was thoroughly ransacked by the occupier.
