May 5, 1940 - Apr 24, 1942

On 28 August 1939 the mobilization was announced in the Netherlands. The government press service reported: “In order to be fully prepared for the duty of the Netherlands in case, against all hope, an armed conflict might break out abroad, to maintain our neutrality with all means available to us, the Government has decided not to wait any longer in taking an extreme precaution and has therefore ordered the mobilization of the army and the fleet.”
