The peak of repatriation took place in the months of April and May 1945. Most returnees arrived back in the Netherlands in organized groups, by truck ship, train, or airplane. Right across the border they were received in reception centers of the Bureau of Evacuation, Repatriation, and Care of War Victims of the Military Authority. This bureau was responsible for the reception, care, and transportation home of the returnees. Many returnees were initially received in reception centers around Maastricht, Groningen, Eindhoven, Enschede, and Breda.
